What will my project be for my internship?
At the beginning of my internship I had an idea of what could be my potential project but this week I finalized the details of it. My project would be filing and organizing the specimen slides that are tinted and untainted. At the sharp lab, they don’t have a designated person who files the slides which can cause a huge build up of work. The lab receives almost 1000 slides a day from 5 different hospitals that need to be stored. Without someone to do that. All the work is behind schedule which can put a pause on everyone’s work. Filing slides helps prevent that by organizing the work place and allowing for workers to pull slides whenever a pathologist requests them. We came up with a system that would help orientate the process of filing slides for when they are ready to be stored or if they are still waiting to be tinted. Each of the different locations have a number that is used to identify them. The first step in the process of storing slides is organizing them by which hospital they belong to. Next we look for what year they are from, we mainly have slides from the year 2020-2023 but any slides that are from years before 2020 need to be filed manually by number rather than through the computerized process. After those two steps are completed, we store them in blue trays and wait for them to be scanned by our computer so that we can know exactly where they are.
