Before beginning my internship with Sharp, I met up with my mentor twice and was given a tour of both workplaces. The first workplace is at the Sharp hospital and the second workplace is at the Sharp pathology lab. During my site visits, my mentor Jenelle Coon talked to me about what pathology is and how a regular day looks in the life of a pathologist. At the Sharp hospital, I was able to see a spleen and a tonsil that was infected with cancer, it was really cool! I learned terms that they used as well as a little about how they organized their findings. During my second site visit, I learned more about the behind the scene parts of pathology. I saw how medical slides are filed and the process for them being filed. I also got to see a placenta that was removed. That same day I talked to my mentor about how my schedule would look like moving forward. We came to the conclusion that I would be at the Sharp lab for two weeks and then make the switch to the Sharp hospital for the last two weeks.
