Week 4 Blog #1 (1/27/23)

How have you seen your role develop or change over the course of your internship? This week I started my two week internship with the pathology lab in Sharp Memorial Hospital. At the start of this internship I was mainly going on specimen runs and observing grossings of the specimen. Now I am able to print cassettes for the pathologists. I still go on specimen runs because it is important to receive all the specimen from the different hospitals but now that I know how to print cassettes it gives me more work to do. I feel as though the pathologists trust me with more difficult tasks than before. Of course I still can’t gross or tint slides but for now I feel like I am at a good point in my internship.

This was the lung of a woman who was a smoker. They found cancer in her lung and brought it into the lab for further inspection.
